Snowmobiler goes through the ice on Bear Lake in Manistee County

BEAR LAKE , MI – At approximately 1:24pm on Thursday December 14th, 2017, deputies from the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Village of Bear Lake for a man who went through the ice while riding his snowmobile on Bear Lake.

First responders from Bear Lake, Onekama, and Arcadia Fire Department were able to retrieve the 47-year-old Bear Lake native who was approximately 75 yards from shore in front of the Bear Lake Marina. The subject was in the water for 21 minutes prior to rescue. No injuries were reported, however the man was transported to Munson/Manistee Hospital for evaluation.

Deputies were assisted by the three local Fire Departments listed above, Tribal Police, and Munson/Manistee EMS. Coast Guard was activated but called off prior to arrival.
