Man Killed in Car Crash after suffering Medical Emergency while at the Wheel

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – An 88-year-old man, from Palms, Michigan, was killed in a car crash after he suffered a medical emergency while he was behind the wheel.

On Sunday December 31st, 2017, at approximately 3:00pm, the driver of a 2014 Dodge Journey was northbound on Dequindre Road. The driver’s wife was in the front passenger seat and stated that her husband began to suffer from a medical condition. The Dodge Journey then drove left of center, sideswiping a southbound 2009 Pontiac Vibe. The vehicle then continued left of center drove through a ditch and into the bushes of an address in the 47000 block of Dequindre Road. The vehicle did not strike the home.

The driver of the Dodge Journey was transported to Troy Beaumont Hospital by the Rochester Hills Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver of the Pontiac Vibe and the passenger in the Dodge Journey were not injured in the crash.

Seatbelts were worn by all occupants in both vehicles. There was no airbag deployment in either vehicle. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
