Huron County Woman Dies in Early Morning House Fire

CASEVILLE, MI – On Wednesday, January 10th, 2018, at 4:12am, Huron Central Dispatch received a call from a neighbor to 8967 Crescent Beach Rd., in Caseville Twp., who reported that the residence was on fire.

Caseville Fire Department arrived to find the residence fully engulfed and requested further assistance from the Fairhaven Fire Department, the Winsor Fire Department and the Scheurer Ambulance Service.

Original on scene information indicated that two individuals could be in the burning structure. A responding Huron County Sheriff’s Deputy was able locate a family member who lives near the fire scene to learn that only one person was likely to be in the structure.

At approximately 5:45am, firemen located the body of a severely burned person just outside the door on the porch of the totally destroyed residence. Investigators from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office secured a search warrant for the scene and they, along with a Huron County Medical Examiner Investigator and members of the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division are looking into the tragedy.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.

At this time there is no positive identity of the female victim so they are unable to release any names.

The cause of the fire is also unknown at this time and the investigation will continue.
