The North Branch Area Schools Community is mourning the loss of one of its students. This morning, January 11, 2018, a North Branch High School senior, Adrianna Phouvone, was tragically killed in a car accident.
Adrianna was a kind, considerate, and loving person. She came to North Branch Area Schools from the Bentley School District her freshman year. Adrianna quickly became part of North Branch’s close knit school family. She was very involved in school activities including the North Branch Drama Club. In addition, she also excelled at the Lapeer County Educational Technical Center.
Mr. Sherman, High School Assistant Principal, shared this recent interaction with Adrianna that took place during the week of December 4, 2017:
While students were passing in the hallways to get to their next class period, Adrianna approached me and mentioned that I looked like I was having a bad day. She was holding a mason jar that contained many small pieces of paper. She said, “Reach in and take one.” I did what she asked. As she walked away I opened the small piece of paper and I realized it had something written on it. “Chin up! I beleaf in you!” along with a drawing of a small leaf with a smiley face. I still have that piece of paper.
The district’s heartfelt condolences go out to Adrianna’s family and friends during this difficult time. The district and local clergy are providing grief counseling resources for students and staff.
Adrianna will be greatly missed.
