DETROIT, MI – A fatal accident claimed the lives of two people on Thursday morning at E Grand Blvd & Chene St, near I-94 on Detroit’s east side.
A mother and her daughter were killed and another child was injured at 7:00am on January 11th, 2018.
The vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed Northbound on Chene near I-94 where it struck a viaduct then a light pole on E. Grand Blvd. The accident happened in front of GM’s Cadillac Assembly Plant.
Sarah Padgett, 41-years-old, was driving a 2013 Ford Taurus, was killed and so was her 11-year-old daughter in the passenger seat. Padgett was ejected and was thrown several feet from the car.
The child, an 8 year old boy, was taken to Children’s Hospital and is in temporary serious condition after being pinned inside of the wrecked vehicle. He had to be extricated by emergency crews.
The family was in the Detroit area from Gaylord. It is unknown why the family was in Detroit.
There were several road closures due to the crash investigation. Those included Chene closed over I-94, Grand Blvd. between Chene and St. Aubin and eastbound I-94 exit to Chene.
