Preliminary Examination Date Correction for Sumpter Township Couple in Murder of 4 yr old Girl

DETROIT, MI – Candice Renea Diaz and Brad Edward Fields, the Sumpter Township mother and her boyfriend were charged with Felony Murder, Second Degree Murder, Torture and Child Abuse First Degree in connection with the January 1st, 2018 death of four-year-old Gabrielle Barrett, were transported back to Sumpter Township Police Department on January 19, 2018 after a trip to Georgia.

The couple was arraigned and remanded to jail on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Their Probable Cause Hearing is on January 31, 2018 and the Preliminary Examination is on February 7, 2018, both at 9:00 a.m. in 34th District Court. The original date for the Preliminary Examination had been inaccurately reported.

Candice Diaz, 24-years-old, and her boyfriend, Brad Fields, 28-years-old, were arrested near Lake Park, Georgia, on Tuesday January 9th after Michigan State Police announced they were wanted in the death of Diaz’s 4-year-old daughter, Gabrielle Barrett.

The had severe burns to her extremities and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local area hospital.
