19 yr old shot in the Butt after Stealing Car from Happy’s Pizza in Pontiac

PONTIAC, MI – Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies on January 26th, 2018, responded to the area of N. Perry Street and Pike Street at Happy’s Pizza on the report of a possible carjacking/UDAA.

Additional information received from the victim was that the suspect stole her vehicle that was parked in front of Happy’s.

Her vehicle was a white GMC Jimmy that fled eastbound on W. Huron Street (M-59). The victim/owner called 911 in a panic and was following with her sister in her sister’s car. This was originally believed to be a carjacking but was ultimately determined to be an Auto Theft.

Deputies located the vehicle traveling eastbound on M-59 west of Rochester Rd. and attempted to stop the vehicle with emergency lights and siren. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop continuing to travel eastbound on M-59. The vehicle entered Macomb County into the City of Utica. The fleeing vehicle then made a turnaround onto westbound M-59 east of Van Dyke.

A Deputy initiated a PIT Maneuver (Precision Immobilization Technique) that disabled the vehicle. The suspect then fled on foot from the stolen vehicle and was pursued by Deputies. During the foot pursuit the suspect produced a large “Rambo” style knife and was shot in the buttocks by pursing Deputies.

Detectives from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, Auto Theft Unit, Utica PD and Macomb County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. No police officers were injured in the incident. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for medical care and is in good condition.

The shooting portion incident is be investigated by Detectives from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office who also processed the scene. The Auto Theft portion is being handled by the OCSO Auto Theft Unit.

Deshawn Martin Simpson a 19 year old resident of Pontiac was arraigned on Wednesday, January 31st at the Sixth Circuit Court on 2 counts of Violation of Probation (VOP). Simpson’s Bond was set at $10,000 Cash/Surety for each count.

Deshawn Simpson was also arraigned the same day in the 50th District Court on the five counts below. Bond for the 5 counts is set at a total of $10,000 Cash/Surety.

Total bond amount for all charges including the Sixth Circuit Court VOP is $30,000 Cash/Surety. He remains lodged in the Oakland County Jail.

Count 1: UDAA (Unlawfully Driving Away a Motor Vehicle) – Felony 6 years

Count 2: Carrying a Concealed Weapon – (knife) – Felony 5 Years

Count 3: Police Officer Fleeing – Third Degree –Felony 2 years

Count 4: Police Animal – Injuring/Harassing While Committing a Crime – Felony 2 years

Count 5: Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing – Felony 2 years
