ALPENA, MI – On the evening of Friday, February 9th, 2018, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding smoke coming from a chimney of a summer residence in the 10000 Block of Lake Street in Sanborn Township. The deputy discovered entry had been made to a unoccupied residence and a fire had been lit in the homes fireplace.
The following day deputies returned in the daylight to continue the investigation. Deputies located footprints in the snow which led to a home in the 2700 block of Beebe Blvd. That home had also been burglarized and a large amount of property had been stolen. Further investigation produced the name of a potential suspect.
On Sunday, February 11th, 2018, a deputy from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office assisted by MSP, located and arrested the suspect at a home on Long Rapids Rd in Alpena Township.
The suspect, a 21 year old Detroit man, was arrested for Home Invasion and Receiving and Concealing Stolen property. The suspect was booked and lodged in the Alpena County Jail and is pending his arraignment.
All of the stolen property from the Beebe Blvd home was recovered at the time of the arrest.
