MANISTEE, MI – A Manistee County man was arrested on a felony charge after he allegedly tried to strangle another person.
On Friday February 9th, 2018, at approximately 2:30pm, the Manistee County Sheriff’s Office investigated a domestic complaint of an “assault by strangulation” on Bridge Street in Manistee Township.
Following the investigation, a felony warrant was issued for Joseph S. Cowen, 52-yers-old, of Manistee.
Due to a threat of possible use of weapons, the Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Emergency Response Team was called in to assist serving the warrant.
Joseph Cowen was taken into custody without incident shortly around 10:15pm that same day.
Cowen was arraigned in the 85th District Court on a two count warrant. Those charges are as follows:
Count 1: Assault by Strangulation (10 year Felony and/or $5,000 fine)
Count 2: Domestic Violence (93 day Misdemeanor and/or $500 fine)
Cowen’s bond was set at $30,000 cash or surety. Joseph Cowen remains locked up in the Manistee County Jail.
