FLINT, MI – A 47-year-old Flint parolee was arrested in Detroit and has been charged with Open Murder and Attempted Arson in the death of a Grand Blanc Township woman after meeting on the dating website PlentyofFish.
David Reed is accused of killing 53-year-old Ranee Marie Mckelvey who was found dead February 11th in her South Hampton Avenue home after co-workers checked on her when she didn’t show up for work. She was found lying face down on her bed.
Authorities believe she was asphyxiated. Autopsy results are pending. Upon checking her residence, it was discovered the natural gas line behind the stove had been turned on and the house was filled with gas. There were also candles burning and authorities believe Reed intended to burn the dwelling down.
Reed is on parole for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm. He had recently moved into Mckelvey’s home. Police say she met him on the internet dating site “Plenty of Fish.” Police arrested him in Detroit without incident.
David Reed has a lengthy and violent criminal record. He was released on parole in August of 2017. Based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections he was previously convicted for:
- Weapons – Firearms – Possession by Felon
- 2 counts of Asslt w/Int Gr Bod Hrm Less Murder
- Weapons – Felony Firearms
- 2 counts of Aggravated Stalking
He is expected to be arraigned later today in 67th District Court.
