OXFORD, MI – On Saturday February 17th, 2018, at approximately 12:30am, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the report of a personal injury crash on eastbound Lakeville Rd near Hosner Rd.
Upon arrival, Deputies were advised that a 2013 Ford Edge had been traveling eastbound on Lakeville Road when the driver, a 36 year old man, from Saint Clair, MI, the centerline in the roadway and collided with a westbound 2013 Ford Fiesta. While the vehicles were still in the roadway, a 1993 Buick Lesabre, driven by a 25 year old man, of Oxford Township, struck the Ford Fiesta.
The driver of the Ford Fiesta, 60 year old man, of Goodrich, and his right front seat passenger, a 57 year old woman, also of Goodrich, were trapped inside their vehicle.
After the collision, the Ford Edge caught on fire and the driver was able to safely get out of the vehicle. The driver and passenger were extricated from the Ford Fiesta by firefighters from the Addison Township Fire Department. The driver was transported to McLaren Hospital – Oakland where he is listed in stable condition.
The front seat passenger was transported to Ascension-Crittenton Hospital in critical condition. The passenger was subsequently airlifted from Ascension-Crittenton Hospital to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital for further treatment. She unfortunately died at approximately 8:30am from the injuries she sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Buick LeSabre sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Ford Edge sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.
Deputies transported the 36-year-old driver of the Ford Edge to McLaren Hospital – Oakland where he submitted to a voluntary blood draw as he was suspected of alcohol use and was then lodged at the OCJ. The results of the blood draw are pending.
Alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash. Seatbelt use is unknown at this time.
The crash remains under investigation.
