Victim Identified in Fatal Manistee County House Fire

CLEON TOWNSHIP, MI – A 45-year-old man is being identified in a fatal house fire early Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as Brian Brantley, of Brethren.

On Tuesday, March 6th, 2018, at approximately 1:50 am, Manistee Central Dispatch received a call that a fire alarm was going off at 17611 Wells Rd., in Cleon Township, Manistee County.

Cleon Township Fire Department was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that the residence was fully engulfed. Manistee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies went to the scene to investigate. The owner of the residence was contacted; however she was not at the home at the time of the fire.

Once the fire was extinguished, a search of the residence was conducted. Firemen located a man in the bathroom of the residence, who appears to have died in the fire.

The autopsy results indicate there were no signs of blunt trauma, no injuries, no ballistic evidence or no sharp force wounds to Brian Brantley’s body. No foul play is suspected.

Exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Cleon Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Maple Grove Township Fire Department, Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital, Benzie County EMS.
