Two facing Multiple Charges in Mason County Home Invasions

BRANCH TOWNSHIP, MI – On Sunday, March 11th, 2018, at 3:11 PM, MCSO deputies were called to the 6900 block of Lake Street in the Tallman Lake area of Branch Township for a reported breaking and entering of a residence.

Deputies responded to the call and while checking the area found 3 additional break-ins of cabins. Deputies followed the foot tracks for about ½ mile to another residence. There deputies located two suspects. After securing the suspect residence a search warrant was obtained and deputies recovered nearly 50 pieces of suspected stolen property. The property included TV’s, power tools, propane tanks, yard tools and household appliances.

Deputies arrested Lee Hamilton Colby, 34-years-old, of Fountain and Chad Fredrick Collins, 26-years-old, of Fountain, were arrested and charged on multiple counts of breaking and entering. The charges are as follows on each individual:

COUNT 1: HOME INVASION-1ST DEGREE did break and enter without permission a dwelling located at E LAKE STREET, with the intent to commit a larceny therein, and while entering, present in, or exiting the dwelling was armed with RUGER .22 RIFLE, a dangerous weapon.

COUNT 2: WEAPONS-FELONY FIREARM did carry or have in his/her possession a firearm, to wit: A RIFLE, AT THE TIME HE/SHE committed or attempted to commit a felony, to wit: HOME INVASION-1ST DEGREE.

COUNT 3: HOME INVASION-2ND DEGREE did break and enter, or did enter without permission, a dwelling located at E LAKE STREET and while did break and entering, present in, or exiting the dwelling did commit a larceny.

COUNT 4: HOME INVASION-2ND DEGREE did break and enter, or did enter without permission, a dwelling located at W LAKE STREET and, while entering, present in, or exiting the dwelling did commit a larceny.

COUNT 5: HOME INVASION-2ND DEGREE did break and enter, or did enter without permission, a dwelling located at E LAKE STREET and, while entering, present in, or exiting did commit a larceny.

COUNT 6: HOME INVASION-2ND DEGREE did break and enter, or enter without permission, a dwelling located at E OAK STREET and, while entering, present, or exiting the dwelling did commit a larceny.

COUNT 7: BREAKING & ENTERING-A BUILDING WITH INTENT did break and enter DETACHED GARAGE, LOCATED AT E OAK STREET, with intent to commit the crime of larceny therein.

COUNT 8: BURGLARY’S TOOLS-POSSESSION did knowingly have in his/hers possession HAND TOOLS AND PRY BARS, said item(s) being adapted and designed for cutting or burning through, forcing or breaking open a building, room, vault, safe or other depository in designed for cutting or burning through, forcing or breaking open a building, room, vault safe or other depository in order to steal therefrom any money or other property, knowing said item(s) was (were) adapted and designed for said purpose.

Both subjects have been arraigned:

Lee Colby remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $50,000.00 cash or surety bond.

Chad Collins also remains lodged in the Mason County Jail on a $35,000.00 cash or surety bond.
