BLANCHARD, MI – Investigators are still working to determine what would have caused a deadly encounter between a man and his wife on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim and her late husband have been identified in the attempted murder-suicide that took place at their home on March 14th, 2018.
The victim is being identified as Janice Hatt, 66-years-old. The suspect is being identified as her late husband Bradford Hatt, 68-years-old, both of Blanchard, Michigan.
The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence in the 10000 block of South Britton Road, at 5:02PM, after a man, now identified as Bradford Hatt, called 911 and stated that he had shot his wife. As dispatchers were talking to the suspect, they heard a gunshot on the telephone and then they lost the caller.

Two members from the emergency services unit and two State Troopers were able to approach the residence and observed 68-year-old Bradford Hatt on the floor and a weapon near him. They entered the residence and located his wife 66-year-old Janice Hatt, who was conscious but had been shot multiple times.
Mobile Medical Response and Millbrook Rolland Fire Rescue had been staged in the area and were requested to the residence. They transported Janice Hatt and met Aero Med which had landed a short distance away, she was airlifted to a Grand Rapids hospital.
The Isabella County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) along with the Michigan State Police Crime lab were on scene until close to 3:00am this morning. Currently investigators are working on interviewing family and friends to help better understand what may have caused the deadly encounter between the couple.
Janice Hatt is still in critical condition after enduring a very long surgery. Investigators will hopefully be able to speak with the victim in the next few days pending her condition and recovery.
