WESTLAND, MI – At 2:49PM the City of Westland sent out a message stating that Merriman Road, south of Michigan Avenue was closed at the railroad tracks in both directions due to an accident.
On Sunday, March 18th, 2018, at approximately 2:45pm, the Westland Police Department investigated an accident involving a train and a pedestrian. The accident occurred along the train tracks east of Merriman and south of Michigan Avenue.
A 19 year old male Inkster resident suffered non-life threatening injuries. A portion of the passing train clipped the pedestrian as he walked dangerously close to the tracks. The pedestrian is being treated for his injuries at a local hospital.
The WLPD does not believe that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the incident, and the investigation is still ongoing.
