ADRIAN, MI – A lengthy investigation by detectives at the Michigan State Police (MSP) Monroe Post has resulted in charges issued against Patrick Hickey, 54 years old from Toledo, Ohio.
Hickey, an English teacher and girls basketball coach at Addison High School from 1986-1990, is suspected of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student when employed there nearly 30 years ago. The MSP began investigating in 2016 when contacted by a private investigator.
On Monday, March 19, the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office charged Hickey with three counts of third degree criminal sexual conduct. He turned himself in on Wednesday, March 21, and was arraigned in Adrian. He was released on a $25,000 cash or surety bond and ordered not to have contact with anyone under the age of 16 or the victim in this case.
Hickey resigned from Addison High School in 1990, but went on to teach at several schools in Ohio and later became Superintendent for the Washington Local School District there.
According to the Toledo Blade, “Washington Local Schools board member Patrick Hickey will face three charges of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree after investigators re-examined accusations that he sexually abused a female student at a Michigan high school decades ago, according to Mr. Hickey’s attorney.”
MSP detectives are investigating at least one other case involving Hickey when employed at Addison High School. Anyone with information is asked to contact D/Sgt. Larry Rothman at the MSP Monroe Post at 734-242-3500.
