HOLLAND, MI – Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on M40 at 140th Avenue in Fillmore Township at 4:12 am on Thursday March 29th, 2018. The crash was reported to involve a semi-truck and trailer combination and a small SUV.
The crash occurred in the intersection and appears the semi-truck was southbound on M40 and struck the SUV, which was westbound on 140th Avenue, in the passenger side.
The semi-truck and trailer ended up in a field southwest of the intersection and the SUV, which was a Ford Escape, ended up on the east side shoulder of the roadway.
The driver of SUV died as a result of the crash. The driver of the semi-truck had non-life threatening injuries.
The deceased driver is Julie Ann Shaffer, 30 years-old, from the Holland area. The driver of the semi-truck is a 60 year old male from the South Haven area.
Assisting at the scene were AMR ambulance and the Overisel Township Fire Department and the Hamilton Fire Department.
The initial investigation indicates that the SUV may have failed to stop at the intersection of 140th Ave and M40. The crash is still under investigation.
