Suspect charged with theft of packages in Canton

CANTON, MI – The suspect arrested in connection with package thefts in Canton has been formally charged.James Newman

On Saturday, James Michael Newman, 27-years-old, of Belleville, was arraigned on one count of Larceny Over $1,000 less than $20,000, a five-year felony; and one count of Receiving & Concealing Stolen Property ($1,000 – $20,000), a five-year felony.

Officers investigating the thefts gave credit to private home surveillance footage received from a resident as aiding in the quick apprehension of James Newman. Newman’s bond was set at $10,000 / 10%. His Preliminary Exam will be held Friday, April 27, 2018, at 35th District Court.

The Canton Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to consider all delivery options available to minimize the length of time packages may be left unattended.
