MSP Investigating Fatal Crash involving Semi that Killed 33 yr old man in Kent County

TYRONE TOWNSHIP, MI – Troopers from the Michigan State Police Rockford Post are investigating a two-vehicle, fatal traffic crash which occurred on M-37 and Fruit Ridge Avenue NW, just west of Kent City, around 3:00 PM on Monday, April 16th.

A 1998 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by 33 year old, Matthew Hoaglin of Stanton, was traveling south bound on M-37 when a tractor-trailer failed to yield and pulled out in front of him.

Hoaglin struck the semi and was lodged underneath of the trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The driver of the semi was not injured. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in this crash. The investigation remains under investigation.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, Sparta Fire Department, Kent City – Tyrone Township Fire Department, Rockford Ambulance, and Bud’s Towing.
