DETROIT, MI – An arrest has been made in the fatal hit and run accident that killed an 8 year old boy who had autism.
A 27-year-old man is in custody in connection with the fatal hit and run of an 8-year-old boy identified as Brandyn Starks on April 20th, 2018. The suspect was arrested during a traffic stop in Ecorse near the area of Jefferson and Southfield
Brandyn was walking across Fort Street, pulling his red wagon behind him, when the suspect hit and killed him. His parents stated that he was trying to get to a park in the southwest Detroit neighborhood.
The boy was rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Witnesses saw an older model, green Chevy Tahoe with tinted windows drive through a red light when it struck the little boy. The driver of that vehicle did not stop at the scene of the accident but instead chose to flee.
Police say they are still looking for the vehicle.
Brandyn Starks funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Trinity Chapel on Fort Street. A Go Fund Me account has been established to assist with funeral arrangements. If you would like to contribute to the fund, please Click Here.
