MONROE, MI – On Tuesday, April 24, 2018, Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone previously reported the arrest of a
suspect in connection with a home invasion in the 14000 block of South Dixie Highway in Monroe Township.
On Wednesday April 25th, 2018, Gregory Yamek a 63 year old Newport MI resident was formally charged with Home Invasion 2nd degree, and possession of a taser and arraigned in The First District Court.
On Tuesday April 24, 2018 at approximately 1:00PM, Detectives from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received information of the home invasion. Shortly thereafter, the suspect, a 63 year-old male from Monroe, MI, was observed traveling northbound on Interstate 75 within the City of Monroe.
Sheriff’s Deputies and Officers from the Monroe Police Department converged on the vehicle as the suspect exited Interstate 75 at North Dixie Highway. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Property stolen from the residence was recovered in the suspect vehicle. The homeowner was not home at the time of the incident.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detectives have been actively investigating several daytime home invasions over the last few months. After Gregory Yamek was placed under arrest, Sheriff’s Office Detectives were able to link Gregory to 11 other daytime home invasions that were reported in Monroe County dating back to September of 2017. Additional home invasion charges will be sought against Gregory Yamek in the next few days.
Gregory Yamek remains in the Monroe County Jail on a $100 thousand dollar bond.
