Oakland County Deputy injured by Suspect during Pontiac shooting investigation

PONTIAC, MI – At about 2:30AM on Monday April 30th, 2018, Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 90 block of W. Tennyson Avenue on the report of shots being fired. Following the reports of shots being fired, another Deputy located an overturned vehicle on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue near Baldwin Rd.Sheriff

The Deputy made contact with the occupants of the overturned vehicle and discovered that the front passenger had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Paramedics from Star EMS and the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded to the scene of the crash.

Deputies recovered a .357 cal. handgun from inside the vehicle. The victim of the gunshot wound was transported to McLaren-Oakland Hospital for medical treatment and is currently listed in stable condition and will recover. The driver refused medical treatment at the scene.

Deputies learned that the shooting victim had been involved in an altercation that occurred outside of the 90 block of W. Tennyson Avenue. Sometime during the altercation the victim was shot in the chest. Deputies returned to the W. Tennyson Avenue address and spoke to witnesses. Witnesses were transported back to the substation to speak with Detectives.

The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old man from Pontiac, involved in the rollover crash was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon and subsequently transported to McLaren-Oakland Hospital for medical clearance. While the driver was lying on a gurney, he managed to kick a Deputy in the face. The Deputy suffered some swelling and redness around his left eye.

The suspect was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of criminal charges.
