PONTIAC, MI – The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and the Pontiac Substation have arrested a suspect who had allegedly sexually assaulted a female on April 24, 2018, after she procured services from him as a Lyft driver.
On April 25, 2018, the female victim went to the Orion Township Substation to make a complaint that she had been sexually assaulted the day before in the City of Pontiac. Subsequently, the investigation was turned over to the Pontiac Substation for review. At 5pm on April 24th, the victim had contacted a Lyft driver had previously used.
This driver claimed he was the owner of a health spa and would give her $400 if she let him give her a massage and filled out a survey evaluating the massage afterward. The victim stated the suspect also encouraged her to drink from an already opened container of ‘Four Loko’, an alcoholic beverage. The victim arrived at the alleged spa and felt as if she was ‘buzzed’. At the conclusion of the massage, the suspect offered her $1,000 in exchange for sexual intercourse. The victim refused, at which time, she was sexually assaulted by the suspect. After, the suspect drove the victim back to her residence.
Deputies transported the victim to the City of Pontiac and located the scene of the crime based on the victim’s statement. Detectives responded to begin their investigation and requested the assistance of the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Lab to process the scene.
The suspect was arrested on April 25, 2018, and lodged at the Oakland County Jail after being interviewed by Detectives. During the course of their investigation, Detectives discovered the suspect had been listed as a possible suspect in a different sexual assault incident which had occurred in December 2017. However, there was not enough information to obtain a warrant at that time. There may have been other incidents involving this suspect and the public is asked to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at (248) 858-4911, if they have any information related to either of the mentioned cases or others which may have occurred.
“The Detectives assigned to this case worked quickly and methodically in order to give this victim the justice she deserves,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. “We will never tolerate behavior from those who commit sexual violence. I commend this victim for coming forward as she may have brought closure for other victims as well. This is a reminder to review some of the newest safety features included in apps such as Uber and Lyft, which allow you to send your location to friends and family and call for emergency help quickly. Always use vigilance and if something sounds a bit strange, listen to your intuition.”
Raheel Bin Hanif, a 24 year old male resident of Waterford Township, has been arraigned on three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct – 3rdDegree, which is a 15 year Felony. At the time of arrest, the suspect had an active traffic warrant.
Hanif was arraigned in front of Magistrate Waldman on April 28, 2018. He was given $750,000 cash surety bond, with a GPS tether upon release. His next court date is May 7th, 2018, where the judge to hear the case is pending.
