DANBY TOWNSHIP, MI – On Sunday May 4th, 2018m at approximately 6:50 p.m., Ionia County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Danby Township for a felonious assault/carjacking. When deputies arrived on scene, they found a 45 year old man from the Eagle area that had been assaulted and received several severe injuries.
The man was launching his boat when another male subject attacked him viciously knocking the man down. The attacker then took the man’s cell phone so he was not able to call for help and jumped in the running vehicle and fled from the scene.
After receiving the vehicle description, dispatch put out a “be on the lookout” (BOL) to surrounding agencies for this vehicle. A short time later deputies from Clinton County located the victim truck being driven by the suspect.
The suspect was identified as Gabriel Neff, a 27 year old man out of the Lansing area. The victim and suspect did not know each other and the investigation did not yield a clear motive behind the attack.
The victim was taken to a local hospital to be treated for the injuries sustained from the attack and is expected to make a full recovery. Deputies were able to reunite him with the items taken by Gabriel Neff.
Gabriel Neff is being charged with Carjacking (up to life), Unarmed robbery (15 year felony), and Aggravated assault. He currently has a $15,000 bond and is being held at the Ionia County Jail.
