FRENCHTOWN TOWNSHIP, MI – 71-year-old Samuel Venier was killed when he failed to yield the right of way to another driver this afternoon.
On Wednesday May 9th, 2018m at approximately 2:26 pm, Troopers from the Monroe Post were dispatched to the intersection of Newport and War Roads for a two car injury traffic crash.
Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicated a 2000 Ford Taurus, driven by 71 year- old Samuel Venier from Monroe, was stopped at the intersection of War Road and Newport Road. Mr. Venier proceeded to turn west onto Newport Road from War Road, failing to yield to an oncoming vehicle, and was struck on the driver’s side by a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling east on Newport Road.
The 1999 Jeep was operated by an 18 year old woman from Newport.
Mr. Venier was pronounced dead on the scene and the female driver was transported by Monroe County Ambulance to Beaumont Hospital in Trenton for non-life threatening injuries.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.
Troopers were assisted by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Frenchtown Fire Department, and Monroe Community Ambulance.
