Flat Rock Man Charged in Double Murder Case

FLAT ROCK, MI – A Flatrock man has been charged in the double murder case of his sister and brother-in-law.

Thomas Edward Lane, Jr., 57-years-old, has been charged in connection with the homicides of Mark Allan Harris 56-years-old, and his wife Catherine Anne Markowski, all of Flat Rock. Defendant Lane had been living in the home of his sister, Catherine, and his brother-in-law, Thomas, for several months prior to their being murdered.thomas lane

On March 31st, 2018, at 1:20 p.m., Flat Rock police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 24800 block of Chinook Court. Upon entry, the police observed the lifeless bodies of Mr. Harris and Ms. Markowski inside the home and pronounced them dead at the scene.

It is alleged that Thomas Lane fatally shot both victims and fled the scene in their car. At 5:35 p.m. on the same day, the police observed Lane driving the victims’ car on Benson Street in Trenton. Michigan State Police placed him under arrest and confiscated a handgun from the car. Further facts and evidence in the case will be presented in court at the preliminary examination.

Thomas Lane is being charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder, one count of Fleeing and Eluding Second Degree, one count of Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and three counts of Felony Firearm Second Offense.

He is expected to be arraigned in 33rd District Court in Woodhaven on Monday, June 25th, 2018.
