PIPESTONE TOWNSHIP, MI – A 61-year-old man was severely injured this evening when his pet pitbull dog attacked him.
On Tuesday June 26th, 2018, at 6:30pm, Michigan State Police were dispatched to the 6300 block of Pipestone Rd., Pipestone Twp., Berrien County for a report of a pit bull attacking an adult male.
Upon arrival the trooper was able to look inside the front door of the residence and see a severely injured man lying on the floor and a pitbull biting his arms. Immediate entry was made into the house and the pit bull turned on the trooper who was forced to shoot the animal with his service weapon to keep it from attacking.
The victim of the attack was a sixty-one year old man and was the owner of the dog.
He sustained multiple severe lacerations to both arms and was in shock from blood loss.
First aid was administered by responding officers as well as paramedics from Medic 1. He was transported to Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph for further treatment.
MSP Troopers were assisted by the Berrien County Sheriff’s Dept. and Berrien County Animal Control.
