CHEBOYGAN, MI -The owner of a Cheboygan owned business that provides drug testing to the county courts has been charged with Obstruction of Justice.
The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s department received information that the Cheboygan business Advanced Safety Training and Drug Testing, LLC owner Kerry Morrish 43-years-old, from Cheboygan, may have submitted a fraudulent urine sample of a person on probation through Cheboygan courts.
“We conducted an investigation over the last several weeks and through that investigation we were able to submit a report to the Prosecutor’s Office. The Prosecutor’s Office then charged Kerry Morrish with one count of obstruction of justice which is a 5 year felony” said Cook.
Undersheriff Tim Cook stated the allegation is serious in that the court system is trying to help those that may have a drug problem by monitoring them on probation or through drug court, which includes drug testing. “If an authorized testing facility does not submit proper samples then we not only lose the aspect of monitoring, we also lose that benefit needed by the person on probation or in drug court to turn their life around.”
Undersheriff Cook stated the courts are going above and beyond to help those individuals that are addicted. “We all know the seriousness of the opioid crisis and the integrity of those in a position to help cannot be compromised.”
Kerry Morrish turned herself in on the warrant on June 13th, 2018 and posted the $25,000 bond. Morrish was arraigned June 28th, 2018. Her next court appearance has not yet been set.
