On April 5th, 2018, Macomb County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a residence in Harrison Township for a harassment report. The reporting person, Garrett McMahan, 39-years-old, reported that he was being harassed via social media.
He is employed with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. McMahan stated that a male, Joshua Pringle, 32-years-old, was posting inappropriate pictures on his social media page. The posted photographs were said to be McMahan’s genitalia that he (McMahan) had originally sent to an underage female.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office MACE (Macomb Area Computer Enforcement) unit became involved and discovered the following. McMahan once dated an ex-girlfriend of Pringle. Pringle set up a fake social media profile (Facebook) which stated he was a 15-year-old female. Pringle used pictures of a female that he did not have permission to use. Pringle requested that McMahan become the friend of his fake underage female profile and McMahan accepted. The two then became friends on a second social media application called Snapchat. McMahan sent pictures of his nude genitalia to what he believed to be a 15 year old female.
This investigation was submitted to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. Pringle was charged with one count of Attempted Unlawful Posting of Message (1 year Misdemeanor). His case is being adjudicated under a guilty plea. Pringle was sentenced to 12 months of probation and a fine.
McMahan is charged with one count of Children – Accosting For Immoral Purposes (4 year Felony) and one count of Computers – Internet – Communicating with Another to Commit Crime (10 year Felony). McMahan was arraigned on this date (6/28/18) in the 41-B District Court of Clinton Township. He was given a $100,000 cash surety bond and is to have no contact with minors and no internet/computer use. If McMahan is released on bond he is be on house arrest with a tether. McMahan is scheduled to be back in court on 7/11/18 at 1:30pm.
