LASALLE TOWNSHIP, MI – On June 28, 2018 at approximately 8:00pm, MSP troopers from the Monroe Post were dispatched to car vs. motorcycle crash on S. Dixie Highway near Kelly Road.
From witness statements and evidence on scene, MSP troopers determined the following sequence of events: A 2003 Dodge Neon driven by a 52-year-old woman from Ottawa Lake was traveling south on S. Dixie Highway when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle, which was traveling north, head-on.
The driver of the motorcycle, 53-year-old David Dittmar from Carleton, and his 45-year-old passenger, Casey Boudrie, of Monroe, were both killed due to injuries suffered in the crash.
The impact of the collision was so severe that it immediately caused the motorcycle to catch on fire, where it was extinguished by emergency responders. The driver of the Dodge Neon suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Promedica Toledo Hospital for treatment.
The subsequent investigation by the Michigan State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit caused S. Dixie Highway to be closed for several hours as evidence was collected, and the scene was measured. The crash is still under investigation, and alcohol use is suspected to be a factor in the crash. It should be noted that both the motorcyclist and his passenger were wearing helmets.
Anyone having information about this incident is asked to contact Tpr. Tom Markey of the Monroe Post at 734-242-3500. Upon completion of this investigation, a report will be submitted to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
