OLIVE TOWNSHIP, MI – The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident involving two cars verses a semi that occurred at US-31 and Port Sheldon Street in Olive Twp.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after two cars and a semi-truck crashed at approximately 7:30 a.m. on July 4th, 2018. The southbound lanes of US-31 at Port Sheldon St were shut down and diverted for several hours during the investigation.
The woman driving the semi failed to stop at a red light. The semi then hit two vehicles, a Jeep and a minivan. Those two vehicles may have been slowing or stopped at the light. Those who witnessed the accident who were driving west on Port Sheldon Street told police they had the green light and they were nearly struck by the semi and vehicles after impact.
The woman who was driving the Jeep was unresponsive when crews arrived on scene. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the minivan was taken to Holland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be alright.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the accident. Names of those involved are expected to be released later today.
