MONROE, MI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is reporting the attempted suicide of an inmate at the Monroe County Jail.
On Wednesday, July 11th, 2018, at approximately 3:15 pm, an inmate was found hanging in his cell by corrections officers. The officers removed the ligature from the inmate’s neck and started to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The officers continued CPR until members for the Monroe City Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance arrived on scene.
The victim, a 22-year-old man from the City of Monroe was transported to Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital and then airlifted to Promedica Toledo where he remains in critical condition.
Out of respect for the family, the victim’s identity is being withheld at this time.
The incident remains under investigation by members for the Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.
