CRAWFORD COUNTY, MI – Two men from the metro Detroit area have been arrested and charged in the murder of a Crawford County man.

18-year-old Dylan Zigler, from Romulus, and Matthew Smith, a 36-year-old man from Canton, were arrested and are now charged with the murder of Dennis Everson, 64-years-old of Frederic Township. Frederic is near Grayling in northern Michigan.

Dylan Zigler and Matthew Smith are accused of beating Dennis Everson to death.

Everson was found beaten to death on a remote piece of property on West County Road 612 on Saturday July 7th, 2018 after he had been reported as missing. His family told police they had not heard from him since July 2nd.

The Crawford County Sheriff stated that the two were arrested during a traffic stop.

It is believed that the suspects and the victim knew each other. At some point last week an argument broke out at Dennis Everson’s home. It is alleged that Dylan Zigler and Matthew Smith beat Everson to death and then dumped his body in the woods on family owned property.

Both Zigler and Smith were denied bond and are due back in court on July 24th, 2018.  If convicted, they both face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

No motive has been indicated as to why Dennis Everson was murdered.
