EMMETT TOWNSHIP, MI – The St. Clair County Drug Task Force has shut down and dismantled a butane hash oil lab in Emmett Township.

According to Sheriff Tim Donnellon, the DTF received information regarding what was believed to be a methamphetamine lab in the 3500 block of Keegan Road on July 12th. When members of the DTF arrived, they discovered it was actually a butane hash oil lab, which is used to turn marijuana into oils to make edible marijuana or to make wax, which is used for vaping.

Specially trained members of the Drug Task Force had to wear hazardous material protection to process the lab, due to the butane gas being used. Butane is a heavy gas, allowing it to lay in low areas when released, instead of dissipating into the air, making the possibility of fire and explosions very high.

Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also seized at the location. No arrests were made and the investigation continues.

The St. Clair County Road Patrol also assisted in the investigation
