MONROE, MI – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a man who was an inmate at the Monroe County Jail who attempted suicide has died.
On Wednesday, July 11th, 2018, at approximately 3:15 pm, an inmate was found hanging in his cell by corrections officers. The officers removed the ligature from the inmate’s neck and started to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The officers continued CPR until members for the Monroe City Fire Department and Monroe Community Ambulance arrived on scene.
The victim, a 22-year-old man from the City of Monroe was transported to Promedica Monroe Regional Hospital and then airlifted to Promedica Toledo where he passed away shortly before 4:15 pm, on July 18th.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received notification from the Lucas County Coroners Office concerning the man’s death.
His family was present at the time when he died.
Out of respect for the family, the victim’s identity is being withheld at this time.
An autopsy will be performed by the Lucas County Coroners Office. The incident remains under investigation by members of the Sheriff’s Detective Bureau.
