PONTIAC, MI – On Thursday July 19th, 2018, Deputies were dispatched to the 700 block on Newman Lane, the Newman Court Apartments, on multiple reports of shots fired and a report of a gunshot victim.Newman Court Apartments

As Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene just after 12:30AM they discovered a Gray Pontiac Grand Prix had been struck by another unknown vehicle which pushed it into a Black Dodge Charger in the 600 block of Newman Lane. The Deputies observed that the Pontiac Grand Prix had multiple bullet holes in the rear passenger side quarter panel and trunk area. Both vehicles were found to be unoccupied.

While evaluating the crash scene Deputies were flagged down by another subject yelling for the police a short distance up the street from the crash. When Deputies arrived they discovered a 26-year-old Pontiac man who had been shot, lying on the ground next to the driver’s door of a Chevrolet Equinox. The Equinox was also observed to have multiple bullet holes in the driver’s side door. The man had been shot five times. One of those shots was to his face.

The victim was not breathing and was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital by Star EMS, where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Deputies identified several witnesses and family members of the victim on the scene and they were transported to the Pontiac Substation to be interviewed.

Deputies checked the area and located multiple shell casings nearby which were collected as evidence. Detectives arrived on scene and requested the assistance of the OCSO Forensic Science Lab to process the scene.

It appears at this time the victim was seated in the Chevrolet Equinox when the shots began and he attempted to flee the area. While doing so, he struck the two parked cars and traveled a short distance before succumbing to his injuries.

Detectives are continuing to work the case and are asking for the publics assistance. If anyone has any information please call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a $2,000 cash reward and you will remain anonymous.
