Inkster Woman Leaves Toddler in Car while She goes to Gamble

DETROIT, MI – A woman from Inkster has been charged after she left her 3-year-old toddler in her car while she went and gambled at Motor City Casino.T Wellams

The child was found inside of a car in the parking deck at Motor City Casino on Friday August 3rd, 2018. It was approximately 7:20 AM when security at Motor City Casino discovered the little boy.

An immediate investigation was launched and it was discovered that the toddler had been alone approximately five hours. The mother was found with her aunt gambling inside the casino.

Talayia Lara Renee Wellams, 25-years-old, of Inkster, has been charged in connection with leaving her three-year-old son unattended, and without adult supervision, inside the casino parking garage.

Talayia Wellams has been charged with Child Abuse – Second Degree and Leaving a Child in a Car Unattended. She was arraigned on Saturday, August 4th, 2018 in 34th District Court. The probable cause conference is scheduled for August 10, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the preliminary examination is scheduled for August 17th, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge William McConico in 36th District Court. The defendant received a $50,000/10% bond.
