IONIA, MI – On Wednesday August 8th, 2018, at 9:48 a.m., Deputies from the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle fatal collision on E. Grand River near the intersection of Ionia Rd.
The investigation revealed a grey Saturn passenger car driven by a 22 year old female from Lansing was traveling east bound on E Grand River Ave toward Portland and crossed into the path of an oncoming vehicle.
A witness on scene, who was following the Saturn, stated the driver of the Saturn continued straight on E. Grand River instead of following the curvature of the road and entered the west bound lane of travel.
Traveling west bound on E. Grand River was a utility truck that was occupied by two individuals. The driver of the utility truck was unable to avoid the collision as the Saturn entered his lane of travel and a head on collision occurred.
The 22 year old woman, the driver of the Saturn, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and passenger of the utility truck were transported to Sparrow Main in Lansing with minor injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Seatbelts were utilized by all occupants of both vehicles.
The immediate family members of the female driver have been notified, however the name of the female driver is not being released at this time to allow the family to make additional notifications.
Assisting on scene were Michigan State Police, Berlin / Orange fire, Portland Fire, Portland EMS, Reed and Hoppes Towing, Lehman Funeral Home, Sparrow Medical Examiner’s Office, Ionia County Central Dispatch, and Ionia County Road Commission.
