ROMULUS, MI – Charlessia Pelt, the mother who has been charged with the alleged drunk driving death of her son has been arraigned on charges in that horrific crash.
Charlessia Pelt, 27-years-old, of Detroit, has been arraigned on the charges in connection with the death of her three-year-old son. Pelt was arraigned this morning, Sunday August 12th, 2018, in 34th District Court in Romulus.
On Thursday August 9th, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. it is alleged that Charlessia Pelt was driving her minivan at Seven Mile and Hayes with her son unrestrained in the rear passenger seat when she drove through a red light striking another car. The impact of the collision caused the child to be ejected on to the street. Pelt’s van rolled backwards over the child and struck a parked car.
It is alleged that Charlessia Pelt was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Her son was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead.
Pelt has been charged with:
1. Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) Causing Death;
2. Reckless Driving Causing Death;
3. 3 counts of Child Abuse 2nd Degree;
6. Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)-Occupant;
7. 2 Counts of OWI – Occupant
The judge set Pelt’s bond at $1 million.
