Victim Dies after being Rescued from Lake Michigan

GRAND HAVEN, MI – The victim who was rescued yesterday morning, August 15th, 2018, from the waters of Lake Michigan at Windsnest Park has sadly died.Brandon Schmidt

The victim has been identified as 20 year old Brandon Schmidt from Allendale, MI. Brandon was pronounced dead at Holland Hospital shortly after arrival.

On Wednesday August 15th, 2018, at 8:21AM, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to Windsnest Park in Port Sheldon Township of Ottawa County in regards to a water rescue.

Initial reports stated Brandon Schmidt was last seen in the water approximately 3 minutes prior to the 911 call. He had been swimming in Lake Michigan about 20 feet out from the beach at Winds Nest Park at which time he was seen going under water.

Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies along with Port Sheldon Twp Fire/Rescue responded to the scene and began searching the waters. Brandon was located shortly after arrival on scene.
