DETROIT, MI – Ollante Arvell Young, 29-years-old, of Detroit, has been charged in connection with the fatal crash of a go-kart which killed one child and injured another.
On August 29th, 2018, at approximately 2:50 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a location in the 19000 block of St. Mary’s St. near Cambridge St in the City of Detroit. Upon arrival, the officers saw damage to a parked vehicle.
Victims of the crash, a four year-old girl, Autumn Young, and a five year-old girl, were transported privately to a local hospital. Autumn Young was pronounced dead at the hospital. The five year-old was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police recovered the go-kart that was involved in the crash from a nearby address which had one seat and was not equipped with headlights or seatbelts.
It is alleged that Ollante Young drove the vehicle while intoxicated. The two victims are his children.
Young has been charged with Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, two counts of Child Abuse – 2nd Degree, and two counts of Operating While Intoxicated with an occupant under the age of 16. He is expected to be arraigned in 36th District Court. Ollante Young will be arraigned at 2:30 this afternoon.
