Two Detroit Men Charged in Fatal Drive-by Shooting of Teen

DETROIT, MI – Jeremy Lamar Cooley, 31-years-old, and Deangelo Sanchez Alexander, 18-years-old, both of Detroit, have been charged in connection with the fatal drive-by shooting of a 16-year-old Detroit boy, and the non-fatal shooting of his 15-year-old friend.Driveby Shooting Suspects

On August 24, 2018 at approximately 7:15 p.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a location in the 20600 block of West Seven Mile Road near Pierson Street in response to a shooting.

Upon arrival, the officers discovered a 16-year-old victim who sustained a gunshot wound and the 15-year-old victim who sustained a wound to the arm. Medics at the scene transported both teens to a local hospital for treatment and where the 16-year-old was pronounced dead. The investigation by the Detroit police led to the arrests of the defendants.

It is alleged that Defendant Cooley drove the vehicle while Defendant Alexander discharged a weapon at the teens while they were changing a flat tire on their vehicle.

Both defendants have been charged with First Degree Premeditated Murder, Assault with Intent to Murder, and Felony Firearm.

They were arraigned today by 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek.  The Probable Cause Conferences are scheduled for September 13, 2018 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examinations are scheduled for September 20, 2018 at 1:30 p.m.  Both hearings are before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court.  Both defendants were remanded to jail.
