Detroit City Council Approves Renaming Chene Park after Aretha Franklin

DETROIT, MI – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan announced at Aretha Franklin’s funeral last week that he would ask that Chene Park be renamed in honor of Aretha Franklin.  That request has been honored as of today.

Detroit City Council on Tuesday, September 4th, 2018, unanimously approved a resolution that will rename the Chene Park to honor the late Aretha Franklin.

The measure for Aretha Franklin Park was approved by an 8-0 unanimous vote.

Aretha died on August 16th from Pancreatic Cancer.  She was 76-years-old.
