DETROIT, MI – We have just learned from a Detroit Police officer that one person was murdered this evening, Saturday September 15th, 2018, near Frankfort St & Somerset Ave on the city’s east side.
Frankfort St & Somerset Ave are near E Warren Ave and Alter Road and within the Chandler Park district.
A 25-year-old man was fatally shot. A witness told police the man was seated in the passenger seat of a Dodge when a dark-colored Pontiac pulled up and someone inside fired shots. The victim was shot multiple times.
A person transported the victim to the hospital where he later died.
Detroit Police Homicide released the crime scene at 12:41AM on Sunday September 16th.
On Friday evening another murder took place in the same vicinity. A 23-year-old man was pronounced dead on the scene just after 1:00PM Friday afternoon. Police officers were dispatched on reports of a car crash in the Morningside neighborhood. The victim was found unresponsive in the car. Police believe he was shot and then collided with a pole.
The passenger of the vehicle fled from the car after the collision out of fear of being shot. He said the driver was shot in the back of the head.
A potential suspect was taken into custody, and a weapon was recovered.
It is unknown at this time if the two murders are connected in any way.
