LAPEER, MI – On Thursday, September 20th, 2018, at 11:46 PM, Lapeer County 911 dispatched Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies to an injury traffic crash upon Millville Road to the north of Mt. View Road in Lapeer.
25 year old Evan Stewart from Columbiaville was the driver and solo occupant of a 2007 Nissan 350Z. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Millville Road and lost control north of Mt. View Road. The vehicle departed the right (east) side of the roadway. The driver’s side eventually impacted a tree. The vehicle rotated to the north side of the tree before
coming to rest within the east ditch.
Stewart was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was severed in half (behind the front seats). The area surrounding the vehicle was wooded. Lapeer County Sheriff’s Deputies and Lapeer City Fire-Rescue conducted an extensive search of the area without locating any other occupants.
The roadway was closed for several hours for rescue and investigative purposes. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Lapeer City Fire-Rescue and Lapeer County EMS Ambulance Service.
Preliminary investigation suggest that speed over the 55 MPH speed limit may have been a factor. The Lapeer County Medical Examiner’s Office is awaiting toxicology to determine if either alcohol or drugs played a role.
This incident remains under investigation by the Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office. Anyone with information is requested to contact Detective Sgt. Jason Parks at 810-656-1015 or email@example.com.
