Plane Goes Down in Iosco County near Oscoda

WILBER TOWNSHIP, MI – At approximately 7:30am this morning, Tuesday September 25th, 2018, the Iosco County Central Dispatch received contact from the FAA of a missing plane. Aircraft

The plane went missing while in route to Kalitta Air in Oscoda, MI. The plane was last observed on radar southwest of the airport at a rapid descent. Troopers from the West Branch State Police Post along with members of the Oscoda Twp. Police department/fire department and the Iosco County Sheriff’s Office searched the area. Ground crews located the wreckage at approximately 10:27am.

The aircraft was a dual propeller King Air, 10 passenger plane, owned by Kalitta Air of Oscoda. The pilot was a 33 year old male from Orlando, FL and is believed to be the only occupant at the time of the crash. The aircraft left the Ypsilanti Willow Run airport this morning and went missing before it reached it’s destination. FAA is currently in route to the crash scene for further investigation into the crash.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Oscoda Township Police Department, Iosco Sheriff’s Office, officers from Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the United States Forest Service.

FAA investigators on scene of the plane crash identified human remains in the wreckage. Positive identification of the victim can not be made at this time.
