MONROE, MI – On Wednesday, October 10th 2018, at about 7PM, Deputies recovered a body from Lake Monroe which is located in Monroe Township.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from a private citizen who was scuba diving in the quarry and found a vehicle submerged on its roof on the quarry floor in about 25 feet of water. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office dive team was activated and responded to the scene. Dive Team members dove and examined the submerged vehicle and found a deceased subject inside.
The vehicle was recovered from the quarry and the remains of the unidentified subject were sent to the Wayne County Medical Examiners Office to determine cause of death and identification. At this time there is no further information that we can release at this time.
During the execution of the Dive, a second vehicle was located about 30 to 40 feet away. This vehicle was also recovered and it was determined to have been previously reported stolen out of the City of Monroe.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau, The Monroe Township Fire Department, as well as Star Towing of Monroe.
