PONTIAC, MI – 55 year old Danny Abraham died when he became trapped in his burning home on Saturday October 13th, 2018.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Waterford Regional Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 50 block of Cherry Hill Lane. Upon their arrival, Deputies found that the structure had been completely engulfed in flames. A female witness who was standing outside of the building stated to Deputies that she believed that there was a man trapped inside. Due to the intensity of the fire, Deputies were unable to enter the building.
Firefighters from the Waterford Regional Fire Department arrived on the scene and extinguished the blaze. Firefighters searched the structure and located the body of a deceased subject inside. The Waterford Regional Fire Department requested the assistance of the OCSO Fire Investigations Unit with conducting an investigation involving a fatality.
Deputies spoke with the 63-year-old woman who stated that she was a resident of the apartment that had caught fire. She stated that she possibly fell asleep with a lit cigarette in her hand causing the fire and that her boyfriend became trapped in the structure. The woman was later transported to McLaren-Oakland Hospital where she was treated and released for minor burns to her legs and hands.
An Investigator from the OCSO Fire Investigations Unit responded for a cause and origin investigation. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office was notified and an Investigator responded to the scene.
Deputies were able to notify the victim’s next of kin. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and the case remains under investigation.
On 10-14-18 the ME ruled the cause of the death of as smoke and soot inhalation and the manner of death was ruled accidental.
