DETROIT, MI – A 43-year-old Detroit man who was shot during a confrontation with police on Wednesday October 24th, 2018, died from his injuries.
The man died at about 11:30pm.
The shooting happened in the 14900 block of Tireman near Greenfield at 8:11 p.m. Detroit police were responding to a call of a felonious assault. The suspect had a gun and was threatening to shoot at the scene, according to Chief James Craig during and news conference
When officers arrived, they encountered the suspect. Chief Craig said that it appeared he was reaching for a gun, that’s when he was shot multiple times by officers. The shooting occurred in an alley near the home. A nickel plated weapon was recovered from the scene. That weapon was lost by a person some years ago.
Chief Craig also stated that the suspect had no known criminal record.
No officers were injured. This is an ongoing investigation.
