MANISTEE, MI – On Sunday October 28th, 2018, public safety officers from the Manistee Police and Fire Department responded to reports of a body at First St. Beach in Manistee.
Officers found the body of a 27-year-old male resident of Mancelona on the beach. Pursuant to the investigation, hazardous chemicals were located at the scene. As a precaution, the responders were decontaminated and evaluated at Munson Healthcare Manistee Hospital’s emergency department. One officer was admitted overnight as a precautionary measure; all other individuals were released Sunday evening.
Members of the Grand Traverse County hazardous materials team and industrial environmental services experts have assessed all sites and belongings that may have been exposed to the chemicals and have performed any necessary cleaning or disposal. There is no threat of harm to the public.
